How do you effectively manage a class with hundreds of students? One method could be to use Discussion boards and Assessment tools. Discussion boards can help create an open transparent forum for questions and answers, which may allow less confident students to participate in ways that they would not do otherwise.

What is copyright? Copyright is a legal right giving protection to creators or owners of original work such as a piece of writing, pictures or music. It prevents others from reproducing, deriving, distributing or selling work, without explicit permission from the copyright holder.

The motivation for this project is to help students develop a cognitive and intuitive feel for the different scales of processes through which the rock record is assembled. Since field-based studies and physical and numerical modeling form the nucleus for most geological research undertaken by earth scientists working both in academia and industry, field studies and modelling will logically lie at the heart of a successful enquiry-based sedimentology class.
