Blackboard training, 2016/17

The EPS eLearning Team offer a range of Blackboard training sessions for academic and teaching support staff. Our suite of course cover aspects of Blackboard tools, Turnitin assignment setup and online marking.  All the sessions are an hour long and are usually held over lunchtimes.  To sign up for one of these sessions please go to the Staff Learning & Development’s online training catalogue and search for courses beginning with EPSELT. For information on non-Blackboard training opportunities, please make an enquiry to elearning@manchester.ac.uk.

We also have bespoke 1-to-1 training slots that can be booked via our website, giving you an hour of focussed training with a member of the eLearning Team. When booking these slots please outline your requirements so we can ensure we provide the best experience.

A short hands-on session in where you will learn about the following aspects of Blackboard:

  • Creating, editing and deleting menu items
  • The different types of content you can put into Blackboard

  • Establishing a content structure in the content collection
  • Applying adaptive release rules to hide and reveal content
  • Previewing your Blackboard page – from a students perspective

EPSELT012: Video production workshop

  • As part of this 2 hour hands-on training opportunity, you will pick up tips and tricks to create pedagogically sound multimedia resources for your course using Camtasia and Articulate.

EPSELT013 Blackboard assignments: setup and marking

  • An extended hands-on session combining our EPSELT008 and EPSELT009 course. In this course you will learn about the following aspects of setting up Blackboard assignments and using the marking tools to provide feedback on students’ submissions.

EPSELT014 Turnitin assignments setup and marking workshop

  • An extended hands-on session combining our EPSELT006 and EPSELT007 course. In this course you will learn about the following aspects of setting up Turnitin assignments and using the marking tools to provide feedback on students’ submissions.

EPSELT015 Communication Tools in Blackboard

  • An overview of the tools in available for communication and collaboration with particular focus on Discussion Boards and Wikis.

EPSELT016 Assessment & Assignments – Turnitin setup – Turnitin Marking

  • A 3 hour workshop that will provide you with an overview of assessments and assignments in the Virtual Learning Environment, covering Turnitin, setup and marking, multiple choice tests, and how each can be used to support teaching and learning.

EPSELT017 Assessment and Assignments – Blackboard Assignment Setup and marking

  • A 3 hour workshop that will provide you with an overview of assessments and assignments, covering Blackboard assignment setup and marking, multiple choice tests, and how each can be used to uspport teaching and learning.

EPSELT018   Assessment and Assignments – Blackboard MCQs for formative assessment

  • A 2 hour workshop that will provide you with an overview of assessments and assignments, covering MCQ tests and assignments in either Blackboard or Turnitin.

EPSELT021 Assignments & Assessments, best practice for feedback, Blackboard MCQs

A 3 hour workshop that will provide you with an overview of how to use online assessments and assignments in the Virtual Learning Environment. In this course you will:

  • Gain an awareness of the options and benefits of the assessment and assignment tools available
  • Identify how they can be used to support teaching and learning
  • Create an assignment in either Blackboard or Turnitin
  • Create a MCQ test following the assessment cycle
  • Gain an awareness of good practice in giving formative feedback to students in assignments and tests

EPSELT022 Interpreting Turnitin originality reports

  • A one hour workshop where you will learn about Turnitin’s originality reports, their benefits and limitations, how to recognise common mistakes and tricks, how to identify correct and incorrect citation, paraphrasing and quotations, and how to proceed if you suspect plagiarism or collusion.

EPSELT023 Marking Turnitin assignments + Interpreting Turnitin originality reports

  • A two hour workshop combining EPSELT007 and EPSELT023 – how to use Turnitin’s marking facilities, and how to interpret Turnitin originality reports.
